A Seamless Expansion: Designing a Future-Ready Workspace for SurfacePrep

When SurfacePrep decided to expand their office space, they turned to a partner they already knew and trusted—Custer.
The challenge? Integrate new furniture and technology in a way that matched the style and functionality of their existing office while supporting the evolving needs of their team.
SurfacePrep turned to Custer to not only maintain consistency but to introduce fresh, innovative solutions tailored to their evolving workspace needs — all without disrupting the cohesive look and feel they had previously established.
Tailored Solutions for a Growing Team
Custer approached the project with the goal of delivering a cohesive experience that felt intentional. To support SurfacePrep’s growing team, we matched their existing workstations with an additional four-pack installation. These weren’t just furniture add-ons—they were extensions of an already working system, designed for immediate use and team integration.

Beyond expanding individual workstations, SurfacePrep aimed to create a dynamic environment where employees could connect, collaborate, and recharge. To support that, we designed a flexible lounge and collaboration area adjacent to the main workspace—complete with soft seating for informal meetings or casual conversations. For added privacy, we integrated two Ecolution Pods, providing quiet, enclosed spaces ideal for focused work or confidential calls.
Private leadership areas weren’t left behind. Two additional private offices were designed to mirror the existing aesthetic and functionality of the original workspace, maintaining brand cohesion and ensuring ergonomic comfort across roles.
A Conference Space That Makes a Statement
A centerpiece of the SurfacePrep expansion is the newly designed conference room, built to support meetings for up to 21 people. Working closely with our partner company FASTSIGNS Grand Rapids, we brought custom wall branding to life, visually anchoring the room with SurfacePrep’s brand identity.

Functionality was prioritized through a fully integrated AV system designed and installed by our partner company CS Erickson, with two custom Enwork credenzas serving dual roles—housing technology infrastructure and beverage refrigeration. These thoughtful additions helped support day-to-day collaboration while maintaining a clean, cohesive look throughout the space.
Creating Personalized Environments That Work
This project included more than just furniture. Every detail reflects our focus on creating personalized spaces that support well-being, spark innovation, and adapt to the needs of growing teams.

Partnering with SurfacePrep reinforced the impact of thoughtful, collaborative design. Through smart planning, trusted partnerships, and a flexible approach, we helped create a workspace that not only meets SurfacePrep’s current needs but is ready for what’s next.
