Allied Mechanical Services and Custer Partner to Design a Collaborative Workspace
Allied Mechanical Services (AMS), one of Michigan’s largest and most experienced full-service mechanical contracting firms announced the completion of its Custer Inc.-designed office located at 3860 Roger B. Chaffee Memorial Drive SE in Grand Rapids.
“We are proud of our company culture, so it was also important for us to design a work environment that supports collaboration and employee engagement. We were also impressed with the technology integration and how easy Custer made it to convert different workspaces to meet our team’s needs.”
This project also included the renovation of Control Net’s office, which is a subsidiary of AMS and located in the same building.
“Allied Mechanical is on the leading edge when it comes to construction technology and we wanted our office to reflect our commitment to innovation. The Custer team did an excellent job incorporating design elements that reflect our company’s values,” said Steve Huizinga, president of AMS.
AMS and Custer partnered to design and renovate 4,673 square feet of office space. The AMS office has nine private offices and two workstations and Control Net’s office has four private offices and nine workstations. This project reflects a growing trend in West Michigan’s industrial sector as companies are required to find creative solutions for space, according to Colliers International | West Michigan’s Q1 Market Trends report.
Custer provided full interior design and custom design services, technology and furniture. Custer brought in Steelcase privacy walls to offer flexibility for offices and conference rooms. Custer also created custom cabinets and shelving out of pipes, and brought in height-adjustable desks. AMS provided construction services and built a custom metal conference table.
“Allied Mechanical’s original office layout consisted mostly of private offices and had little sunlight, so Custer came in and opened up the space and brought in more natural light,” said Kylee Haywood, new business development manager at Custer. “Allied Mechanical was a great partner throughout the project and we enjoyed working hand-in-hand to develop a workspace that truly reflects their mission, culture and industry.”
With offices in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and Jackson, AMS serves clients across the industrial, health care, education, municipal and commercial sectors. Services include virtual design and construction, pre-fabrication, design build/design assist, construction and custom metal.
