These Letters from Students are the Only Valentines We Need
They say February is the month of love. And we’re certainly feeling it.
Earlier this month, our Director of Education Sales received a package of notes from sixth grade students at Greenville Middle School. The students had written to Lana to convey their thanks for the classroom furniture loaned to them by Custer’s education team as part of our Education Furniture Test Drive Tour. And truly, the students’ gratitude has melted our hearts. In an effort to share the love, we’ve compiled just a handful of the heartfelt notes Lana received. As you’ll see, they’re as good as any Valentine.
(Note that the students’ names have been omitted.)
First, some context. The sixth grade class received Custer’s “test drive” classroom, which features Node chairs and Verb tables with whiteboards. The chairs are designed with a work surface that swivels, keeping information and work at hand. Below the chair is an attached tripod base, simplifying movement and bag storage. Really, the detail on the drawing above is all the information you need, and that exclamation point/smiley face combo says everything about how they feel. Now just try not to melt into a puddle when reading that signoff: From a hardworking student.
This student reports that the classroom furniture helped keep them focused and entertained. Isn’t that what education is all about — a balance of work and play? Happy to help, friend.
Who remembers feeling cheery in the classroom? Not many of us. It warms our hearts to hear that adding color to the learning environment brightened this student’s day.
As this student mentions, the Node chair offers a variety of options — with and without cup holders, tripod base or casters, with a work surface or without. We really wish we could have been there to see them contemplating the differences.
Children are our future. We’re so happy to hear (and see :D) that their new classroom furniture felt accordingly future-focused.
Perhaps the only thing more rewarding than hearing that students enjoyed their new learning environments is pictures of adorable animals on cards written by those very students.
These letters from students remind us that furniture in the learning environment has a day-to-day impact on those who use it. Research has shown that inflexible layouts and furniture with limited mobility hamper interaction among students, instructors and content; in fact, the environment can become the barrier between them. Our aim is always to eliminate those barriers, to support connections, and to feed the engagement of students of any age.
